Sydney Update

We've been in Sydney for a week now and are definitely getting to know the city pretty well. We've been walking A LOT as we hunt for a place to live and check out the different neighborhoods. It's pretty stressful to find a place here right now and it doesn't help that the apt/house hunting situation is very different from the US. They typically go to real estate agents just to rent a place and open houses are only on Saturdays and they are literally 20 min windows of time to view a place w/ a bunch of other people checking out the unit at the same time. It makes for a busy Sat trying to get from one place to another knowing you only have 20 min to view a place! We checked out a few places yesterday but nothing struck our fancy. Some of the units are furnished which makes it very convenient even though we don't always have the same taste as the owners! We would be willing to purchase cheap furnishings for places that are bare, but we came to the realization that none of them have fridges which definitely poses a problem. So it's back to looking at furnished places...

We've been staying at a Holiday Inn in a good location which we found on Priceline.com for a great price. Since we are checking out tomorrow we did another search on Priceline and we are now booked at a 4 star Marriott for $70 a night! Not sure how we lucked out on that one... It's also in a great location so we are pretty pumped about that. It's nice to know we will be in the same spot for another full week and have a maid to come make our beds. =) Now if only we can find something a little more permanent with a kitchen!

On Thursday we went to the Sydney Wildlife World and saw some native Australian creatures. Jen was excited to finally see real live kangaroos, koalas, wombats, echidnas, etc! On Friday we went to one of the beaches to check out that part of town. It was a gorgeous beach so we are looking forward to going back when we can actually relax on the beach and enjoy the day.

We checked out the nightlife on Thurs and Sat and found some cool bars to hang out in. We can't wait to meet more locals and find out about other cool places to go.

I was going to post more a few more pics but the computer isn't cooperating at the moment so you will have to wait a little longer to see our smiling faces again!

Back to the house hunting...
xoxo,
K&J

Hi Girls,
Well this is my first BLOG and had to figure out the registration first. Loved the pictures and so glad you arrived safely.
Kari, you & Jen look so much like you could pass for sisters.
We miss you at GV, Kari. Good luck on apt. hunting. It sounds as competitive as NY was.
Hugs,
Dorothy
